What is the Participant-Direction Option (PDO)?

Florida’s Participant-Directed Option Program (PDO) allows Medicaid recipients to have more control over their long-term care services. Participants have the freedom to schedule their services and manage their care according to their preference and needs.

With the PDO, Medicaid eligible older adults and adults with physical disabilities can:

  • Choose who provides your support
  • Control other aspects of your care
  • Hire a friend, family member, or other person of your choosing
  • Become the employer of your worker
  • Negotiate pay rates within your budget and oversee their work

Who is eligible?

PDO is available to adults with disabilities and the elderly who are enrolled in Florida's Statewide Medicaid Long-Term Care program.

To apply for services, contact your local Aging and Disability Resource Center at 1-800-963-5337 or click this link to the Department of Elder Affairs.

What services can be managed under PDO?

Participants can manage various services, including adult companion care, meal preparation, laundry, shopping, and sometimes light housekeeping.

What will PPL do for you?

Participants who have chosen to self-direct with the Participant-Directed Option Program are required to use a financial management services (FMS) company such as ours. We will assist with enrollment, complete background checks, hire your workers, payroll, file taxes and other aspects of your self-direction journey.

We know this process can be complicated, but we will answer your questions every step of the way. If we don’t know an answer, we’ll find it and get back to you, quickly.
